On Monday's episode of Mom, Christy's (Anna Faris) worlds collide and her worst nightmare comes true when her recovering alcoholic mother Bonnie (Allison Janney) goes on a date with her sarcastic, hard-partying restaurant colleague, Chef Rudy (French Stewart).
"Bonnie is a trainwreck and Chef Rudy is a trainwreck," Stewart tellsTVGuide.com. "[Bonnie's] got a bad picker. She just picks the worst men, and Chef Rudy will basically do anything. So, it's just a recipe for disaster."
Stewart can't divulge many details about their date, other than to say that Rudy makes dinner for Bonnie — and the evening (somewhat unsurprisingly) takes a bit of a kinky turn. But the actor, who's only been seen in the kitchen thus far on the show, says the date episode was a nice break from his routine. "It's really interesting to get him out and see a little bit more of what he's like," he says of Chef Rudy.
It was also a rare opportunity for Stewart to work with Janney, he notes. "The girls have really gotten in a groove ... but sometimes I get old man head," he notes. "So I just hit a point where I could not get my lines right, and I just looked over and basically it was just Allison Janney just laughing her ass off at me. She thought it was the most hilarious thing in the world. She was like, 'Come on, old man. Pull it together.' ... She's really the gold standard. It's just really playing tennis with somebody who's better than you are and making you better. It's a pretty nice thing to have."
