Brooke Staricha, America's Next Top Model Brooke Staricha, America's Next Top Model

There's one every season, and this go-'round, Brooke Staricha was America's Next Top Model's resident weeping willow. She got nervous, and she cried. She got mad, and she cried. She nearly got eliminated, and she cried. She settled in for what was supposed to be a tear-stained photo session, and... nothing. That's right, nothing. How on earth did the 22-year-old Texan's go-to coping mechanism fail her when she needed it most? To find out, TVGuide.com rang her up while eagerly anticipating tonight's episode (airing at 8 pm/ET on UPN).

TVGuide.com.com: What was it like being up there in the final two when Tyra was ripping into Jade and calling her fake. Did you think, "Oh, my god, I'm going to get to stay"?
Brooke Staricha:
I had a feeling I was going to go home so I wasn't really expecting to be kept. I had already prepared myself to be eliminated. It was more a feeling of acceptance.

TVGuide.com: So there was no moment of hope?
Brooke:
No, not at all. I wish there had been, though. [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: Wasn't it satisfying to finally hear someone let alone Miss Tyra! call Jade out?
Brooke:
Yeah, it needed to be said. And maybe hearing it from Tyra, Jade might finally get the hint to tone it down just a little bit. Because I think she does have the potential, but in panel she tended to say things that would have been better left alone.

TVGuide.com: In panel, out of panel...
Brooke:
Yeah, pretty much all the time. [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: It seems ironic to me that your downfall was a shoot that involved crying. After all, you seemed to spend a lot of time in the house doing just that!
Brooke:
I know! When I cry, my chin quivers just a little bit, so Tyra told me not to really cry so that wouldn't happen. I tried to sort of get the look, but it just didn't happen that day. At the same time, I'd kind of resolved just before we were assigned to do that shoot that I wasn't going to cry anymore. I was being seen as a weak individual, and I thought to myself that I needed to get it together. So by the time I got to the crying shoot, I just didn't really have it in me anymore to cry.

TVGuide.com: It's like you made a resolution... and then immediately were asked to break it! Now what about the situation with Nnenna? You called her a bitch and then felt sooo guilty about it even though she totally deserved it!
Brooke:
Sometimes things are said in anger, but I don't really think it's right to call people names, ever. I wouldn't appreciate someone saying that to me, so I felt bad because I felt as if I could have handled the situation better than I did.

TVGuide.com: It seemed as if you were at your wit's end. Heck, everyone was fed up with her at that point! It's one thing for a model to accessorize, but it's another for her to use the only phone in the house as her accessory!
Brooke:
I felt the same way! And being in that situation with all the stress and not being used to living with so many girls...

TVGuide.com: I don't want you to call people names and feel all guilty about it later, but what's up with Nnenna? She seems a little strange, as if she comes from a different planet.
Brooke:
Looking back on things, she just had a focus on winning. She didn't care what anybody thought or how they reacted to her. I don't know if that's really her or just her trying to stay focused on the competition. But she could have shown more consideration for others.

TVGuide.com: When her boyfriend came for a visit, did you guys try to warn him that he might not want to get so attached?
Brooke:
I actually never really spoke to him, because when he came it finally gave me an opportunity to use the phone! I used that time very wisely.

TVGuide.com: Speaking of beaus, did you realize that Nigel seemed to have a big crush on you?
Brooke:
You know, I tend to be oblivious to that sort of thing. But every week, the girls would point it out to me. They'd say, "Oh, my gosh, Nigel loves you!" After it was pointed out, I paid a little more attention and it did seem as if he was rooting for me!

TVGuide.com: And Twiggy loved you!
Brooke:
And I love her! I felt so honored to have Twiggy rooting for me!

TVGuide.com: I know Tyra sometimes takes a personal interest in girls after the show. Has Twiggy been in touch to say, "Keep at it"?
Brooke:
I haven't heard from her, but I don't think we're allowed to have contact. I'm not really sure how that works!

TVGuide.com: You're a student. What are you studying?
Brooke:
I'm back in school and majoring in psychology.

TVGuide.com: Do you plan to pursue that or take time off to pursue the modeling thing while the iron is hot?
Brooke:
I'm going to take some time off from school. I just want to finish up the semester, and then I'll pursue modeling and see how that goes.

TVGuide.com: Being in the house must have been great for a student of psychology. It would have made for a great term paper!
Brooke:
That's for sure!
