MLB Player Torii Hunter: Having a Gay Teammate Would Be "Uncomfortable"

Detroit Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter is facing criticism for comments he made recently to the Los Angeles Times, in which he said that having an openly gay teammate would be "uncomfortable."

Commenting in a story about the lack of openly gay active athletes in professional sports, Hunter told the Times: "For me, as a Christian ... I [would] be uncomfortable because in all my teachings and all my learning, biblically, it's not right. It [would] be difficult and uncomfortable."

Though many athletes have come out of the closet upon retiring, there has yet to be an active athlete in the MLB, NHL, NFL or NBA who is openly gay, according to the Times article.
