Box Office: Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation Off to a Strong Start

Rogue Nation, the latest installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, landed in first place at the box office this weekend, taking in $56 million in its debut, according to Box Office Mojo. That's the second-best opening for a Mission: Impossible film ever, behind 2008's Mission: Impossible 2, and Tom Cruise's third-highest debut of all time (behind M:I2 and War of the Worlds).

Vacation, however, had a tepid opening. The remake of National Lampoon's classic starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate earned just $14.8 million.

The two newbies displaced last week's No. 1 film, Ant-Man, pushing it down to third place with $12.6 million. Minions also dropped a spot to No. 4 with $12.2 million, followed by Pixels with $10.4 million.

In sixth place was Trainwreck with $9.7 million.

Southpaw and Paper Towns both fell two spots in their second weekends to Nos. 7 and 8 with $7.5 million and $4.6 million, respectively. Paper Towns just edged out Inside Out, which finished in ninth place with $4.5 million.

Jurassic World rounded out the Top 10 with $3.8 million in its eighth week in theaters.
