Miss Arkansas Savvy Janine Shields ("Savvy" is short for Savannah, according to Cosmo) was crowned Miss America 2017 during the 96th annual Miss America beauty pageant in Atlantic City on Sunday.

During her tenure as Miss America, the University of Arkansas student will serve as a spokesperson for the Eat Better, Live Better campaign. She was also awarded a $50,000 scholarship.

During the talent portion of the pageant, Shields performed a jazz dance to the song "They Just Keep Moving the Line" from the defunct NBC series Smash.

The first runner-up was Miss South Carolina Rachel Wyatt. Third place was Miss New York Camille Sims. Miss Washington Alicia Nicole Cooper came in fourth, and fifth place was awarded to Miss Mississippi Laura Lee Lewis.

The competition was hosted by The Bachelor host Chris Harrison and sportscaster Sage Steele. Celebrity judges were singer Ciara, Shark Tank panelist and entrepreneur Mark Cuban, Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas, actresses Sara Foster and Laura Marano, country singer Cole Swindell and Miss America 1985, Sharlene Wells Hawkes.
