The "Well, I wasn't expecting that" news of the day is Miley Cyrus is set to star in Woody Allen's Amazon series. Deadlinereports that Cyrus and Elaine May are joining Allen's six-episode half-hour comedy series for the streaming network. Allen wrote the series, which takes place in the 1960s, and he will star and direct in each episode.
There's no official description of May's or Cyrus' parts, but the casting alone is enough to cause raised eyebrows. Will Cyrus be the next dubiously younger love interest (Cyrus is 57 years his junior) to star opposite Allen?
The Amazon series marks Cyrus' first serious acting role since So Undercover in 2012. While Cyrus has made cameo appearances in shorts and specials, she's spent the last three years primarily focused on her music career. Taking a role in a highly anticipated Allen series could be a sign that she's jumping back into the acting game. May's last film project was Allen's Small Time Crooks in 2000.
While Allen has set his principal cast, he's not revealing the rest of the actors just yet. Production begins in March.
