In a role that already has some TV critics predicting Emmy gold, Winslet stars in HBO's new miniseries Mildred Pierce. The network released the first trailer Monday.
Adapted from the 1941 novel and the 1945 film of the same name, Winslet stars as a middle-class mother who struggles to maintain a stable relationship with her demanding elder daughter (Wood) during the Great Depression. The role is Winslet's first major TV project (she guest-starred as herself on HBO's Extras in 2005) and her first role since winning the Oscar in 2009 for The Reader.
The five-part miniseries will debut on HBO sometime next year.
