Congratulations are in order for Michael Sam. The NFL's first openly gay player is engaged to his boyfriend, Vito Cammisano, reports Page Six.
A source told the website the couple, who went to the University of Missouri together, became engaged while in Rome on an extended European vacation. They rang in the new year in Spain before moving over to the land of spaghetti and pizza.
Sam's Instagram is full of photos from their trip, including one of the couple inside the Coliseum. The most recent, posted on Sam's 25th birthday on January 7, is a photo featuring the view from the top of St. Peter's Cathedral. "What a beautiful view from the top of St. Peter's Basilica!!! Happy 25th birthday to me," he wrote.
Earlier this year, Sam became the first openly gay man to be drafted into the NFL after the St. Louis Rams picked him in the seventh round. He was released after the pre-season, but was later picked up by the Dallas Cowboys. He was cut from the team in October and is now a free agent.
