He didn't exactly survive the zombie apocalypse, and he didn't survive the destruction of Ego, so things aren't looking great for Michael Rooker to survive whatever fast cars come his way. However, he's certainly going to try as the actor is set to join the upcoming Fast and Furious 9.

According to Deadline, who first broke the news, Rooker will play Buddy and... and that's all we know about the character right now. Production has already started on the ninth installment of the franchise. Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, and Helen Mirren are all returning to their previous roles, while John Cena is also joining the cast. We can certainly guess how Rooker's Buddy will fit into this, and it's probably safe to say it will either have something to do with cars, saving the world, or family.

Rooker most recently played the blue Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and 2, and before that played Merle Dixon, Daryl's (Norman Reedus) older brother, on The Walking Dead for the first three seasons before he succumbed to the zombie outbreak. He's also appeared on True Detective, Psych, and Chuck over the years.

Fast and Furious 9 arrives in theaters on May 22, 2020.
