Michael Phelps was arrested for driving under the influence early Tuesday morning, police said.
According to the Maryland Transportation Authority, the 22-time Olympic medalist was pulled over at approximately 1:40 a.m. in Baltimore for going 84 mph in a 45-mph zone in the Fort McHenry Tunnel. During the stop, the officer suspected Phelps was intoxicated and issued a field sobriety test, which Phelps failed with a blood alcohol level of almost twice the legal limit, according to TMZ.
Phelps was charged with DUI, excessive speeding and crossing double lanes. He was previously arrested on a DUI in November 2004 when he was 19, for which he received 18 months probation.
