Comedienne Joan Rivers remains on life support in a Manhattan hospital, her daughter Melissa said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

"On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we've received," Melissa Rivers wrote on joanrivers.com. "At this time she does remain on life support. I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers."

On Monday, Rivers' family announced that she would be gradually brought out of a medically induced coma, but added: "There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair."

Rivers, 81, was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after she stopped breathing during surgery on her throat. She has not regained consciousness since. Her family members are reportedly considering a lawsuit against the facility where she was undergoing the procedure.
