Mega Buzz: Will a Horrific Event Derail Jamie and Claire's Outlander Relationship?

Outlander's Jamie and Claire have overcome plenty to be together, but their trials are far from over. In fact, the second half of the season features an event so horrific that the lovebirds may never recover.

As fans of the books (and viewers of this promo) know, Jamie (Sam Heughan) will soon rescue Claire (Caitriona Balfe) from Captain Jack Randall. But it's Randall (Tobias Menzies) who will have the last laugh when the sadistic Brit does the unthinkable to Jamie. "When Jamie is taken and held by Jack Randall, that's such a pivotal moment in their relationship and in the series," executive producer Ronald D. Moore says. "You can never take that away and that will always be part of [them] going forward. [Claire] feels an enormous burden of guilt. If she had not come and stayed -- she wonders if any of these events would've transpired."

And those feelings may very well doom the couple. "They're constantly fighting their way to get back to where they were the wedding night," Heughan says. "It's a great tragedy of the show that this relationship has been tainted for good.... I don't think we canever get back there. They're constantly trying to find a way to reconnect, and at the very end of the season they're left in a very tentative place."
