The big reveal comes just as Jamal's career is poised to take off, making the family more than a little suspicious of this person's intentions. But Smollett promises nothing is as it seems on Empire. "Whatever you think it is on the surface, it's even deeper than that," the actor tells TVGuide.com.
Jamal will find a way to turn life's lemons into lemonade. "You'll see that it both distracts and inspires him," Smollett says.
