Where in the world was Matt Lauer Monday morning? At home nursing a shoulder injury — thanks to a deer.
The Today show host flipped over his bicycle's handlebars after a deer jumped into his path over the weekend, co-host Meredith Vieira announced on air.
"Matt's banged up with a displaced shoulder, it popped out," she said. "So hopefully he'll be on the mend soon."
Lauer, she said, told her he had suspicions the deer was hired by the competition.
"I hired the deer," Vieira joked. "But I said just graze him."
Lester Holt filled in for Lauer.
