Marvin Gaye's son has slammed an in-the-works biopic about his father — and is asking singer Lenny Kravitz to reconsider starring in it, TMZ reports.

The film, which according to TMZ is tentatively titled Sexual Healing, will take place primarily during the 1980s and will focus on the late singer's drug use and depression during that time. (Gaye was shot and killed by his father in 1984.)

"The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful ," Marvin Gaye III tells TMZ. "[They're] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don't even know the whole story."

To top it off, the younger Gaye's childhood friend and classmate, Kravitz, has been cast in the lead role.

"I would hope [Kravitz] doesn't have any idea that we are against this film being done," Gaye III said, adding that he and his family are taking legal steps to stop the production from going forward.
