Say it ain't so, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!

With the future of the show up in the air as Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. gets further and further along into its fifth season, executive producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen and Jeffrey Bell are taking no chances. According to a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, they are writing the Season 5 finale as a potential series finale, just in case.

"Right now, we're writing a series end," Jeffrey Bell said, "because as far as we know, this could be it."

The writing isn't exactly on the wall for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just yet though. The show has been on the bubble almost every year it's been on the air, so these writers could be doing the right thing by playing it safe.

Unfortunately, their version of "playing it safe" isn't exactly the average writer's traditional understanding of the phrase.

"We'll never end something without the potential for more story," Tancharoen said. "That's how we've ended every season, because whenever we've come to the end of all the season's past, we go into that mostly not knowing until the very last minute, so we're basically doing the same thing to close out season 5. It can fit well as a possible series finale, and it can fit well as just another season's end."

Do you think it's time for Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the team to hang up their hats? Or is Season 6 a must have?
