Martha Stewart Serves Up Season 3 of Cooking School on PBS

Entrepreneur and celebrity chef Martha Stewart brings viewers back into her kitchen for the third season of PBS's Martha Stewart's Cooking School. The 13-episode series teaches home cooks how to master a multitude of meals and culinary techniques in just 30 minutes. "It's not the typical dump-and-stir program," Stewart told TV Guide Magazine at a private cooking demo in the test kitchen at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia's Manhattan headquarters, where she cooked personal pot pies for a room full of reporters. "We focus on one particular kind of cooking or one particular ingredient. I love to impart the ideas, and we have lots to cover."

This weekend's episode (check tvguide.com listings) focuses on noodles, covering three recipes: a one-pan tomato pasta, which uses linguine; the popular Asian street food pho soup; and one of Martha's favorites, pad Thai. "Everything has to be fresh," Stewart says of her secret to perfecting a well made, anti-take out pad Thai. "The bean sprouts have to be crunchy, you need good noodles and everything has to be 'mise en place' before you start."

The rest of the season sizzles through a range of cuisines, exploring American classics like glazed ham, corn fritters and potato salad, and foreign favorites, including osso buco, Persian basmati rice and a French frisée aux lardons salad, all contributing to Stewart's weekly master classes in gourmet-made-simple grub. "People don't know how to cook artichokes really well and even very few restaurants serve them well prepared," she says of steamed artichokes, which are featured, paired with a tarragon butter, in the "Know Your Vegetables" episode, airing mid-season.

Besides previewing the season, the author and businesswoman let us in on her favorite eats, such as eggs, which may just be her absolute favorite food. "It can be poached, it can be scrambled, it can be coddled," she says, adding that breakfast is her top meal of the day. When she's craving something sweet, Stewart goes for "anything lemon," and when she wants something savory, she digs into her homemade paella (pictured). What's her number one kitchen must-have for every chef at home? "A very good knife."
