Marla Maples and Tony Dovolani 'shocked' after Dancing With the Stars elimination

Recently departed Dancing with the Stars contestant Marla Maples is opening up about her relationship with Donald Trump to People, clearing up misconceptions about their marriage that ended in 1999.

"I was never with him for his money. I wasn't there for the glamorous life or the riches," said Maples. "I kind of giggle about it when I hear people describe me living some lavish lifestyle... I live in a 740-sq.-ft. apartment. Who are they talking about?"

She and Trump differed on how to raise their child, she said, leading to their split. She got $2 million in the settlement and later auctioned off her engagement ring.

Maples, who on DWTS seemed very much the free-spirited type, added, "To me it's never about how much money you have. It's about how are you connecting with each other, supporting each other?"
