Mark Madoff, Son of Bernie, Found Dead in Apparent Suicide

Mark Madoff, the son of convicted swindler Bernie Madoff, has died of an apparent suicide, The Associated Press reports. He was 46.
Madoff was found hanged in his Manhattan apartment Saturday morning, officials told the AP.

His death fell on the two-year anniversary of Bernie Madoff's arrest in the Ponzi scheme."Mark Madoff took his own life today. This is a terrible and unnecessary tragedy," Martin Flumenbaum, an attorney for Mark and his brother, Andrew, said in a statement. "Mark was an innocent victim of his father's monstrous crime who succumbed to two years of unrelenting pressure from false accusations and innuendo. We are all deeply saddened by this shocking turn of events."

Both Mark and Andrew worked for their father and were under investigation in the case, but hadn't faced any criminal charges. Bernie Madoff is currently serving a 150-year prison term after pleading guilty to swindling investors out of billions of dollars.
