Maisie Williams Shuts Down Game of Thrones Fan Theory About the Night King's Death

What is dead may never die, but at least one Game of Thrones fan theory has been put on ice. During the Game of Thrones panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday (full details here), Maisie Williams set the record straight when asked whether Arya had any assistance when she killed the Night King.

Short answer? No. Long answer? No, she did it all by herself thank you.

In the end, Arya was the one to kill the terrifying Night King, and she did so with a dragonglass blade made by her one-time fling, Gendry (Joe Dempsie). This came as a surprise to many, because it was assumed that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) would be the one to kill the main white walker, but not so fast. While Jon was off moping around the Seven Kingdoms, Arya spent ages learning how to be a master assassin, and it was even foretold in a prophecy from Melisandre (Carice van Houten) that she would close "many eyes," including blue ones -- which the Night King had.

When it came time to do the deed, Arya acted alone. However, some on the internet didn't want to believe that outcome and suggested Jon actually aided in Arya's assassination by distracting the undead dragon Viserion by screaming "go go go," to his little sister/niece. This fan theory claimed that even though he didn't kill the Night King himself, Jon clearly played, like, a 40 percent part in making it happen.

Williams was asked about this during the Comic-Con panel, and at first seemed a little bemused by the question, since she's clearly not spending her free time reading Game of Thrones fan theories on the internet.

"She did that on her own. If we're gonna give credit to anyone, it's Melisandre. She knew what she had to do to put the mission in Arya's head when she's at her lowest point," Williams told the crowd. "After so long being on her own, [Arya] has something to lose now. Being back with her family has made her that much more vulnerable. So if we're going to put it down to anyone for helping her finish the job, it was Melisandre for the 'brown eyes, green eyes, blue eyes' line."

So that's one fan theory we can put to rest forever.
