Gavin MacLeod, who starred as Murray Slaughter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Captain Stubing on The Love Boat, has penned a tell-all memoir called This Is Your Captain Speaking, in which he discusses his early career and newfound devotion to Jesus.

In an interview with Fox News, MacLeod says he believes going bald at a young age actually boosted his acting prospects. "It allowed me to have a wonderful career," he tells Fox News. "Jessica Tandy always said as an actor you take what is your liability and it'll become your asset."

Bubble Shows: Which will survive?

The actor admits that his second marriage fell apart because of hiscareer. "I put my work before her," he tells Fox News. "The Love Boatbecame such a giant job. I was all over the place promoting it. I was traveling all over and I just felt — this sounds very egomaniacal — but I felt that I didn't have time for her anymore."

After their divorce, however, MacLeod and his wife Patti reconciled and both became born-again Christians. In 1984, as his mother was preparing to undergo brain surgery, MacLeod promised to devote his life to Jesus if she pulled through the operation. The same week, he visited Patti for the first time in three years and she gave him a Bible.

Now, says MacLeod: "We have what you call a threefold marriage. You make a triangle with your hands and you can see Jesus is at the top and we're below. That's pretty solid. You're a threefold covenant. There's three people in this marriage. We've been through some difficult things physically but we're still here, stronger than ever and living for the Lord."
