Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn has begun divorce proceedings with her husband and chief adviser, Thomas Vonn, Yahoo! reports.

Vonn, as well as her husband, rose to fame last year when she won the gold medal for downhill skiing at the Vancouver Olympics. Thomas, a 2002 Olympian, replaced Lindsey's father, Alan Kildow, as her coach. Father and daughter remain estranged, according to Yahoo!.
"This is an extremely difficult time in my personal life and I hope the media and my fans can respect my need for privacy on this matter," she said in a statement. Lindsey, 27, and Thomas, 35, married in September of 2007.
