Jay Leno Released from Hospital, Cancels Second Tonight Show Taping

Jay Leno

Jay Leno was discharged Friday afternoon following an overnight hospitalization.

Leno's hospitalization forced the cancellation of the Thursday and Friday tapings of The Tonight Show — the first episodes he's missed in 17 years on the air.

"He was kept overnight for observation and it was not symptomatic of anything serious," spokesman Dick Guttman said.

Guttman and a hospital spokeswoman confirmed Leno's release, but gave no information on the nature of his illness.

Leno checked himself into a Burbank hospital near the Tonight Show set Thursday afternoon.

Anderson Cooper, Kathleen Madigan and Brad Paisley had been scheduled for Friday's show. Leno, who will step down from The Tonight Show on May 29, is aiming for a Monday return.
