Jenny Boyd Says Legacies' New Vampire May Be the New Damon Salvatore

Bring on 'Smolderhalder 2.0'

Legacies might have fewer romances between young teenage girls and older-than-dirt male vampires than The Vampire Diaries did (which we're obviously very on board with), but Season 2 will attempt to play into that trope in a less cringey and possibly very hilarious way.

A very old (but technically still very young) vampire is headed to Mystic Falls, and he's apparently got the kind of smolder that would make even The Vampire Diaries' Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) jealous. Sebastian (Thomas Doherty), a teenage vampire who's been desiccated for hundreds of years (practically the vampire equivalent of a centuries-long coma), will be hitting the scene in Season 2, and he's about to get a crash course in 21st-century dating courtesy of one Lizzie Saltzman (Jenny Boyd)

"Lizzie develops feelings for him very quickly," Boyd told TV Guide. "He's kind of an Ian Somerhalder type -- smoldery, old-school guy -- so that's definitely her jam... He's a little bit 'Smolderhalder' 2.0, you know? He's got that vibe, that really sexy, just impossibly beautiful human type of thing going on."

"We really want to bring in an old, old, old-world vampire," Plec previously told TV Guide of Sebastian. "But we want to introduce a vampire who kind of got desiccated when he was 17 in maybe the 15th century and now wakes up in the 21st century and realizes that all the rules of being a vampire have changed and that he does not fit in into this very modern world."

Being used to the societal norms of the old world, Sebastian will obviously have a lot of new trends and mindsets to get used to, which Lizzie will help out with. As for whether or not their differing worldviews will ignite sparks between them, that's anyone's guess.

"Lizzie obviously has strong opinions about everything, so we'll see how that plays out in their relationship," Boyd teased. "It's kind of that line between lust and hate at times, maybe. You know this thing of, like, 'Oh, I really like you, but I don't like that I like you.'"

Legacies Season 2 premieres Thursday, Oct. 10 at 9/8c on The CW.
