Hours Before Oprah Interview, Lance Armstrong Stripped of Olympic Medal

Lance Armstrong

Hours before the first segment of Lance Armstrong's two-part interview with Oprah Winfrey is scheduled to air (Thursday at 9/8c, OWN), the disgraced cyclist has been stripped of the bronze medal he won at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, CNN reports.

During Winfrey's prime-time interview with Armstrong, the athlete reportedly admits to using performance-enhancing drugs, a claim Armstrong denied for years. Earlier this week, Winfrey said Armstrong " did not come clean in the manner I expected" during their sit-down.

The International Olympic Committee made its announcement regarding Armstong's medal Thursday. "We have written to Armstrong asking him to return the medal," IOC spokesman Mark Adams said, according to CNN. The committee has also informed the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Last October, Armstrong was also stripped of his seven Tour de France titles by the International Cycling Union.

Armstrong's two-part interview on Oprah's Next Chapter airs Thursday and Friday at 9/8c on OWN. Check out a preview below. Will you watch?
