Lady Gaga Undergoes Hip Surgery

Lady Gaga underwent hip surgery last week after she was forced to cancel the remainder of her concert tour because of a chronic injury, Reuters reports.

Last week, Gaga announced to her nearly 35 million followers that she had been hiding an injury, which her doctors eventually diagnosed as synovitis, a severe inflammation of the joints. The surgery was to treat a labral tear in her right hip.

"As they wheeled me into surgery... I thought about all of your pain and perseverance, your unique family situations, school environments, health issues, homelessness, identity struggles," Gaga wrote to fans on her littlemonsters.com website Thursday. "So I just thought to myself, 'I'm alive; I'm living my dream, and this is just a bump in the road.'"

Gaga initially canceled three of her shows in order to rest, but she ended up canceling the rest of her "Born This Way Ball" tour days later.
