The 31-year-old reality TV star, who hired celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, cites irreconcilable differences and wants the court to reject any move by Kris to get spousal support, documents posted by TMZ show. They reportedly signed a prenuptial agreement.

"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage," Kardashian said in a statement to Ryan Seacrest. "I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."

The pair began dating in December 2010, got engaged in May and married in August. Their wedding was televised on E! as a two-part special, which some 4.39 million people and 3.98 million watched on Oct. 9 and 10, respectively.

News of the couple's divorce reportedly took E!, by surprise and the network was said to be holding emergency meetings Monday to figure out how to handle the split, a network spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. Shooting has already wrapped on Season 2 of Kourtney and Kim Take New York, during which cameras reportedly captured Kardashian and Humphries agreeing to take a break. As of Monday, E! is not set to film Kardashian's upcoming business trip to Australia, leaving it unclear whether there will be footage of fallout from the split.

The meetings will also establish whether E! plans to rerun the couple's wedding special, which was scheduled to air again on Monday and Tuesday.

This will be the second divorce for Kardashian who split from music producer Damon Thomas in 2004.

It didn't take long before the news led to a flurry of celebrities weighing in on Twitter. Among them: Ice-T (@finallevel): "Wow! I just heard Kim Kardashian is getting a divorce after only 72 days of marriage???..... I bet she keeps that ring."
