CSI: Miami viewers are going to be treated to some Khandi.
Khandi Alexander, who was an original cast member on the CBS hit until her surprising exit last season, will reprise the role of Alexx Woods in 2009, sources tell TVGuide.com exclusively.
Alexander's visit, however, is just that. At this time she is booked for at least one episode to air early next year, perhaps during the March sweeps ratings period (pushed back by the Feb. 17 switch to DTV).
As Alexx, Alexander was the procedural's original medical examiner, a capacity she filled until the end of last season. At that time, Alexx had concluded that it was too hard to juggle the rigors of her intense occupation with her family life, so she bid the CSIs adieu. Megalyn Echikunwoke was brought on this fall to pinch-hit as new M.E., Dr. Tara Price.
At the time of Alexander's Miami exit, the door was left open, both on-screen and off, for her possible return in a guest-star capacity.
This February, Alexander will film a lead role in Treme, an HBO drama pilot about life in post-Katrina New Orleans. The Wire's Wendell Pierce (playing Alexander's jazz-trombonist ex-husband) and Clarke Peters also star.
