Two years after returning to ESPN, Keith Olbermannis stepping away from his post.

The news comes a week after reports surfaced claiming that ESPN was looking to stifle Olbermann's often critical commentary. ESPN posted this tweet, reacting to the claim:

In a new statement that confirms Olbermann's exit, the sports network says "Keith is a tremendous talent who has consistently done timely, entertaining and thought-provoking work since returning to ESPN. While the show's content was distinctive and extremely high-quality, we ultimately made a business decision to move in another direction. We wish Keith nothing but the best and trust that his skill and ability will lead him to another promising endeavor."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Olbermann's departure comes down to "creative differences."

Prior to returning to ESPN in August of 2013, Olbermann hosted programs on MSNBC and Current TV.

His ESPN2 program will continue to run through the end of July.
