Watch out Hawaii Five-0. Vultures are circling your seriously underused star Taryn Manning, who was originally described to me as a series regular but has barely appeared on screen as Steve McGarrett's little sis, MaryAnn. F/X's Sons of Anarchy had wanted Taryn to appear in more episodes this season in her recurring role of Cherry, but her contract with Hawaii Five-O limited her participation. Now comes word that NBC's Law & Order: SVU is taking advantage of Taryn's free time by booking her on an upcoming episode. Taryn will fly to New York in December to portray a woman who years earlier had been coerced into the seedy porn world.
While Five-O producers had planned to feature more of Taryn earlier his season, sources tell me some of her scenes had to be cut when it was decided to take more time unraveling the mystery surrounding the murder of Steve and MaryAnn's mother. Fortunately, Taryn will finally get some well-deserved screen time with Alex O'Loughlin and his crew in an early January episode when her character gets kidnapped. Hawaii Five-0 producer Peter Lenkov insists to me that Taryn is a valued player whom he hopes to use more in 2011.
