Sportscaster Fred White Dies

Kansas City Royals broadcaster Fred White died in hospice Wednesday of complications from cancer, The Associated Press reports. He was 76.

The Kansas City Royals had announced White's retirement from the organization just one day prior.

White worked for the Royals for 40 years, beginning in 1973, the AP reports. In addition to being the team's primary broadcaster alongside Denny Matthews through 2008, he also helped call MLB playoff games, including six division championships, the 1980 American League championship, and the World Series in 1985 (which the Royals won). He also called basketball games and other sporting events for ESPN, NBC, TBS and other outlets.

After retiring from broadcasting, White led the Royals Radio Network and was involved in other aspects of the organization, such as clinics and the team's fantasy camp, the AP reports.
