Maybe Americans don't need to worry about sending Justin Bieber back to his native Canada after all.

The pop singer, 19, surrendered to Toronto police Wednesday night in connection with an assault charge that stems back to late last year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Justin Bieber: A timeline of bad behavior

Media and fans swarmed the Toronto station Wednesday as Bieber was ushered in by a police guard as well as several police officers.

Local law enforcement says they were called late on the night of Dec. 29, 2013 to an incident involving a limo driver at the corner of Dundas Street West and University Avenue in Toronto. The driver alleged that a member of Bieber's entourage assaulted him when the driver was ferrying the Canadian star and several others. Police said at the time that it was unclear whether Bieber was directly involved.

Bieber is expected to be charged with assault, given a citation to appear in court at a later date and be released without bail.

Bieber was arrested last week in Miami on charges of DUI, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license. Police claim that he admitted to drinking, smoking marijuana and taking prescription pills at the time of his arrest. Bieber is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 14.
