Judge Judy's Son Accused of Interfering with Child Rape Case

Judge Judy Sheindlin's son, district attorney Adam Levy, is being accused of interfering in a child rape case, The Associated Press reports. Levy's personal trainer Alexandru Ionut Hossu, who also recently lived with Levy, was arrested last week on charges of rape stemming from a 2010 incident that the victim only recently reported. Although Levy, the Putnam County District Attorney, recused himself from the investigation, Sheriff Donald Smith says he's still involved.

"He is apparently trying to influence and affect the investigation, which could be perceived as an ethical violation of his official duties and perhaps even as an attempt to undermine it," Smith said. "In my view, Mr. Levy's comments and actions would seem to suggest that, if he could have his own way, Mr. Hossu would never have been brought to justice for his crime and Mr. Levy's relationship with him would never have been brought to the light of public scrutiny."

Levy responded by saying, "My office acted properly in every aspect of the investigation."

Levy and Smith reportedly have a long-standing feud over how to handle traffic tickets.

Sheindlin, whose legal show has been on the air since 1996, made a statement through her spokesman: "The sole focus of this story should be the investigation as to whether a young girl was the victim of a very serious crime."

A rep for the Westchester District Attorney hasn't said whether or not Levy will be questioned during the investigation, but Hossu is due back in court on May 7.
