Lucas, 39, would play Mitchell McDeere in the series, the role originally played by Tom Cruise in the 1993 film of the same name. The show and the film are both based on John Grisham's best-selling novel.
The show will pick up 10 years after the events of the film and the book, when McDeere brought down a prestigious Memphis law firm that acted as a front for the Chicago mob. The story follows McDeere and his family just as they leave the Federal Witness Protection program to try to reclaim their lives. However, new threats are everywhere.
Lukas Reiter (The Forgotten, Law & Order) wrote the pilot. Grisham will serve as an executive producer on the show, which is set to premiere midseason on Sundays at 10/9c on NBC.
