Canadian director John Driftmier was killed in a plane crash over the weekend while filming a documentary for Discovery Canada, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He was 30.

Canadian director John Driftmier was killed in a plane crash over the weekend while filming a documentary for Discovery Canada, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He was 30.

Driftmier, who has a number of documentary film credits to his name, died while getting footage for the series Dangerous Flights, according to the report.The show tracks pilots who fly small private planes to various locations around the world. Both Driftmier and his pilot were killed when their small plane crashed in Kenya

Jacquelin Bouchard, the CEO of Montreal-based film producer Pixcom, said in a statement: "[Driftmier] was an incredibly talented director and cameraman, and a wonderful friend. ... Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this very sad time."

Driftmier is survived by a wife and his parents, according to THR.
