Joel McHale might be happily married to his wife Sarah Williams since 1996, but he has no problem being mistaken for gay. In an interview with The Advocate, McHale embraced the rumors and even shared his suggestion for Communityslash fiction.
"It's flattering," McHale said of the misconception he's gay. "I always find it really weird when guys flip out over someone thinking they might be gay. If a guy gets offended by that, there's something's wrong with him. I take it as a compliment."

McHale also voiced his appreciation for the gay fan base of his continuously struggling NBC comedy. "Community needs all the help it can get, so thank God for our gay fans," he said. "Our young gay fans especially are the loudest and most Internet-savvy. That also speaks to the quality of our show, which I think is highly intelligent."The actor admitted to having seen a lot of fan art and 'shipper videos, in which fans have re-edited Community footage to create new stories and relationships. As to which male character he would romantically pair with Jeff Winger with, McHale said, "I'd go with Magnitude, whose catchphrase is 'Pop! Pop!' So I think you know what he'd say during sex."
