Joanne Borgella, who was a contestant on Season 7 of American Idol, died Saturday after a long battle with endometrial cancer, according to a post on her Facebook page.

"With heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Joanne," her family members wrote. "On Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 5:45AM, Joanne Borgella Ramirez was called by the Lord to heaven."

Borgella made it to the Top 24 on Season 7 of Idol, and also appeared on MTV's MADE, as well as Mo'Nique's Oxygen reality show Fat Chance, on which she won first place.

Borgella routinely updated fans on her progress with treatment via social media, using hashtags like #GodsGotThis and #IWillBeCancerFree2014. Her last Facebook post is dated Sept. 23, in which she discusses going to radiation.

Her family described her as "a fighter" and said that, since her diagnosis more than a year ago, "her faith, courage and strength were unshaken throughout every obstacle she encountered."
