The comedienne and Fashion Police host was rushed to the hospital after she stopped breathing while undergoing a procedure on her vocal chords, according to TMZ, which broke the news. The minor endoscopic procedure was being performed at a medical clinic, according to E!

Early Thursday afternoon, she was reported to be in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable.

Rivers, 81, seemed perfectly healthy during E!'s coverage of the Emmys and VMAs on Tuesday, offering her typically fiery commentary on stars' red carpet attire.
