Jessica Biel is returning to TV after more than a decade in movies.

The 7th Heaven alum will be joining USA's new crime thriller The Sinner, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Not only will Biel star in the drama about a young mother who "commits a public act of violence," but she'll also be active behind the camera as an executive producer.

USA has ordered a pilot for the show, which is based on Petra Hammesfahr's novel of the same name. Biel's character snaps in a public place and commits a "startling" act, but can't explain why. A rogue investigator will become obsessed with finding out why the young mother lost it and together they'll take a journey to into "the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past."

Biel originally became a household name when she starred as Mary Camden on the WB show 7th Heaven about a middle-class minister and his family. Biel left the show after six seasons with a desire to play edgier female characters.

Aside from a guest appearance on New Girl and voice-acting roles on BoJack Horsemanand Family Guy, The Sinner will be Biel's first series regular role in 15 years if the show is picked up.
