Discovery Channel has ordered four episodes of Jesse James: Outlaw Garage, the new series from rebel motorcycle and car customizer Jesse James. The order comes after Discovery tested the waters with a special on April 9.
"Hot Damn! Outlaw Garage is a go!" James tweeted earlier today. "Big thanks 4 tell'n Discovery what u want on TV!" Discovery confirmed the news, but said no airdate is set yet.
As TV Guide Magazine first reported, the special served as a pilot to the new Jesse James series that Discovery — which ran the James-hosted Monster Garage from 2002 to 2006 — was keen on greenlighting. James hasn't had a regular series since Jesse James Is A Dead Man, ran on Spike TV in 2009. The special wound up attracting 1.2 million viewers and posting a 0.5 rating among adults 18-49.
"People like to see me build stuff," James told TV Guide Magazine earlier this month. "The further away from that concept I go, the less popular it is. Let's just go back to basics and build custom bikes and custom cars again."
Jesse James: Outlaw Garage follows James as he customizes bikes and cars at the Austin Speed Shop in Texas. American Chopper executive producer Craig Piligian is producing through his Pilgrim Films production company.
It's been a big day for "outlaws" at Discovery. The channel earlier today announced that it had picked up the six-part series Outlaw Empires, from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter.
