Those who are wishing that Jersey Shore would go away are going to have to wish harder: A total of 8.8 million viewers watched the reality show's Season 4 premiere, making it the biggest season premiere in MTV history.
While it bested the Season 3 premiere (which nabbed 8.45 million viewers), Jersey Shore's season premiere numbers were not the biggest for a single MTV telecast. That distinction goes to the fourth episode of Season 3 (in which Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi was released from jail) — that one had 8.87 million viewers. The following week grabbed 8.83 million, making this Season 4 premiere the third most-watched telecast in MTV history.
But hey, given that the Jersey Shore zeitgeist shows no signs of slowing down, there's always room to grow. Jersey Shore occupies the top 14 ratings slots of non-sports shows on cable this year.
