Michael Jackson Left Lots of Unreleased Music, Mottola Says

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson recorded enough unreleased music before his death to provide fans with fresh sounds "for years to come," says Tommy Mottola, former CEO and chief of Sony, the company with distribution rights to much of Jackson's music.

The material includes songs never heard by the public and reworkings of his classics, Mottola tells Time. The singer was known for recording far more songs than he could fit on an album, he said.

"Let's say 12 or 13 songs end up on the album; Michael could have possibly recorded 15, 20 or 30 songs," says Mottola. "This would probably go for every album he recorded and probably pre-dating [Sony] to his Motown days."

Interest in Jackson's music remains intense: His recordings fill six of the top 10 slots in this week's Billboard Comprehensive Albums chart.

In addition to the older material, Jackson was working on two albums at the time of his death, Time said. One was a classical album with composer David Michael Frank, who told CNM Jackson "had the tunes pretty much worked out."

Remixes are also more than likely.

"That's five years of material right there," Mottola says. "You can just go on and on and on. It's endless for years to come."
