Science fiction, fantasy and mystery writer Jack Vance died Sunday, according to The Associated Press. He was 96.
Vance, who wrote more than 60 books throughout his career, died at his home in Oakland, Calif., his son said.

Over his prolific career, Vance published numerous books under others names, including 11 mystery novels as John Holbrook Vance, three as Ellery Queen and solo novels under the pseudonyms Alan Wade, Peter Held, John van See and Jay Kavanse.
His career achievements include winning the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement as well as being named Grand Master of Science Fiction Fantasy Writers of America.
