Zombies are invading the Earth! Or, the television landscape at least.

Fresh off making the fan-funded and eagerly anticipated Veronica Mars movie, series creator Rob Thomas is working with the film's co-writer, Diane Ruggiero, on a zombie drama series, Deadline.com reports.

Based on DC Comics' iZombie, the project is in development at The CW. It is described as a supernatural crime procedural about a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner's office to obtain the brains she must eat to maintain her humanity. However, with every brain she consumes, she also inherits the corpse's memories. In order to silence those disturbing voices in her head, she solves homicide cases along with her medical examiner boss and a police detective.

Both Thomas and Rugierro would serve as executive producers on the project, along with Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge (Party Down). This is just one of several projects in development at The CW with ties to DC Comics, following the possible Arrow spin-off The Flash and Hourman. The CW has had success with DC with both Arrow, now its second season, and Smallville, which ran 10 seasons.
