Marshall's wife Johanna said that her husband called her Saturday night, not feeling well enough to drive home from his tattoo shop near Chicago and spent the night at a nearby hotel. She became worried when he didn't answer her calls the next day and was later informed by two police officers that Scott had died at the hotel in his sleep.
A preliminary autopsy reports that the cause of death was related to his heart, but an investigation is ongoing.
A representative for Ink Master said, "He was a great competitor and talented artist. Our deepest condolences go out to the Marshall family and friends." Scott appeared on the Spike competition series in February 2014 and claimed the $100,000 grand prize. He is survived by his wife and their three small children.
