Idris Elba, the actor who played Stringer Bell on HBO's The Wire, is in early talks to play the main villain in the upcoming Star Trek 3 movie, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Details on Elba's potential role are being kept under wraps.

The third film in the rebooted franchise and the sequel to Star Trek Into Darkness, Star Trek 3 is expected to be released in July 2016 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. Justin Lin is on board to direct.

Elba can currently be seen in The Gunman and will appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron later this year. He is currently filming a two-episode special for the U.K. series Luther.
