VIDEO: Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder Says Season 7 Damon will Be Dark, Volatile - and Sexy!

The Vampire Diariesis getting dark in Season 7. And although Damon Salvatore has lost the love his life -- for the time being, at least -- star Ian Somerhalder couldn't be more excited to explore this next chapter.

"With any change comes a bit of a limbo stage," Somerhalder tells us in the video above. "I'm excited to tell these f--ked up, dark, sexy, edgy, volatile stories. Now we get to go back to really great storytelling that was the Season 1 and 2 of the show that we all loved. I want that Damon back."

As viewers saw in the Season 6 finale, Kai (Chris Wood) linked Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) with a sleeping spell so that while Bonnie was alive, Elena would remain in a coma-like state. Given the choice to let Bonnie die or save her, Damon chose the latter. "I knew the love of my life would stand by his best friend even if it meant having to live without me for a little while," Elena told him in their goodbye scene.
