For his next project, Hugh Laurie is taking on an American classic.

The House alum has been cast in George Clooney's adaption of the seminal Joseph Heller novel, Catch-22. He'll step into the role of Major de Coverley, a jazz-loving executive officer who marches to the beat of his own drum.

The story follows Captain Yossarian (played by Girls alum Christopher Abbott) and several other members of the fictional 256th Squadron based on the Italian island of Pianosa during World War II. They find themselves in an impossible situation as the army demands more missions to fulfill their service requirements and any choice they make to maintain their sanity comes with a hefty cost.

The six-part limited series will be executive produced by Clooney and Grant Heslov for Hulu. In addition to producing, Clooney will also play Colonel Cathcart and direct multiple episodes. Ellen Kuras, who previously helmed episodes of Legion and Ozark, will also step in to direct two episodes.

Catch-22 marks Laurie's second collaboration with Hulu after starring in the crime drama, Chance. The series was recently canceled following the release of Season 2.
