It's a Heroes whodunit! Mega-mogul Kaito Nakamura (George Takei) was murdered in last night's season premiere by a mysterious hooded figure who seems intent on picking off the show's older generation. Angela Petrelli, the ice-queen matriarch played by Cristine Rose, has already received a death card hinting that she's next — so, with the clock ticking, we quickly grabbed an interview with the actress!
TVGuide.com: How scared are you these days?
Cristine Rose: I'm haaaaa-ting this! [Laughs] On my chair on the set, they're now putting my name on with tape! It's so sad. And in small letters down in the corner it says, "She's going to die!" We have a "wall of death" at the studio, with pictures of all the actors who've been killed off, and I am staking out my 5 inches now! But you know what? If I make it to the end of this first volume of 10 episodes, I'm thrilled! I'll still cry and they'll have to drag me off the lot, but I'll be thrilled.
TVGuide.com: It's been a blast loving Mama Petrelli even though we can't trust her.
Rose: Oh, I think she's just misunderstood and misguided! I have to play her with the intent that she's good and that she's a nurturer… yet a nurturer who's not averse to violence. This part really juices me up!
TVGuide.com: Word is, she drops quite a bombshell in the Oct. 15 episode.
Rose: Yes, the shocking confession. It's about the murder. She is in the thick of it. She has a lot of secrets, and she'll be doling them out.
TVGuide.com: Well, if I were you, I'd dole them out very slowly — especially with this death-card thing hanging over your head. Of course, nothing is ever what it seems on your show.
Rose: And things can turn at any given moment. Every time I think I have Angela pinned down as to who and what she is, I'll read the next script and everything has changed. Last season I took some solace in the fact that I wasn't heavier in the stories because that meant there was no need or interest in killing me. As exciting as things are for me on the show these days, I am now a marked woman! But… [Pregnant pause]
TVGuide.com: But what?
Rose: Are we really sure Angela is not a part of [Kaito's death]? I will tell you this about the next few episodes: My character crosses paths with the other heroes and none of them are very happy about it.
TVGuide.com: Angela's fury toward her son Nathan [Adrian Pasdar] is a fearsome thing to behold.
Rose: Not only did Nathan destroy all her plans that had been building up for decades, she blames him for killing her beloved son Peter [Milo Ventimiglia]. It's all blown up in her face. They've got me doing monologue after monologue like Lear, just ranting and raving.
TVGuide.com: Of the older generation's original core four — Angela, Kaito, Linderman [Malcolm McDowell] and Charles [Richard Roundtree] — you're the only one left.
Rose: Oh, we find out there are a few more. I still have no idea about the origins of this group. I like to think we all met up at Woodstock in the '60s and it was there that we found out about our powers. We sprang from that generation that wanted to save the world. And, well, just look at it now — it's all falling apart. Despite their best intentions, hell happened to Angela and her friends. She had especially wanted to save Peter from that hell, and her granddaughter Claire [Hayden Panettiere], too. But now she's powerless. Her friends and family are dying, she's alone and very vulnerable… and then it goes downhill from there. So who knows what will happen to her? I just hope I stay on the show long enough to qualify for the Angela Petrelli action figure!
