Crossing Jordan Finally Back!
Since Jill Hennessy took nearly a year off to have son Marco, many viewers mistook Crossing Jordan for canceled. No original episodes of NBC's coroner drama have aired since last May! TV's sexiest medical examiner returns Sunday at 10 pm/ET, though. In fact, double runs of Jordan will air on Sunday and Friday nights through March. "It's great to be back," says Hennessy, who figures fans stop her an average of "eight times a day" to inquire where the show went.
Of course, while the 36-year-old brunette attracts admirers wherever she goes, not everyone knows exactly who she is. "It was funny walking the streets of New York while I was pregnant," she says. "I'd get very interesting comments. I guess people didn't realize that Catherine Zeta-Jones had already had her baby. So they'd say, 'Catherine Zeta-Jones, say hi to Michael Douglas for me!' I think my whole pregnancy issue confused people."
Back to the show. What's the scoop on her alter ego, Jordan Cavanaugh? "In this third season, we're trying to balance the heavy drama with some levity," Hennessy says. "I miss playing the comedic aspect of Jordan. She's got a zany, over-the-edge personality. We'll also be dwelling a lot less on her personal trauma with her parents and getting more involved in some plotlines the audience will recognize." Translation: Law & Order hasn't cornered the market on "ripped from the headlines" crime stories.
In Sunday's premiere, we find Jordan still stuck on office desk duty. "She gets distracted and starts eavesdropping," Hennessy advises. "Through the ventilation system, she overhears what's happening in an office a few stories above her. It starts off rather lasciviously. She hears a couple getting intimate, shall we say, and is listening for pure enjoyment. And then, she realizes something else has occurred — perhaps a murder. So she enlists Peter, played by Ivan Sergei, to help find out what happened. Garrett's (Miguel Ferrer) story line is good, too. It's about an allegedly Satanic ritual killing on the outskirts of Boston. It's a pretty intense episode."
